WiMAX
WiMAX, or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, was first developed by the WiMAX Forum that formed in June of 2001 and is designed to wirelessly transmit data at high speeds to distances of up to one mile.

The major advantage to using WiMAX as a smart grid protocol is its status as an open platform.

GPRS
The General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) utilises the GSM mobile phone network to transmit data using IP packets. As a globally implemented standard, equipment can be deployed Worldwide with confidence.

Freestyle is communications network agnostic and has extensive experience with a wide range of technologies including custom manufacture of WiMax and GPRS devices
