Home Area Networking

The Home Area Network (HAN) enables devices within the residence to communicate and obtain information from the Utility via the electricity meter.

This allows Utilities to extend consumer programs such as energy efficiency, demand response and variable pricing.

Devices such as thermostats, In-House-Displays, and smart appliances connect to the Utility network via the HAN.

The HAN could automatically turn devices on or off, up or down, and shift the smart appliances to an economy mode based on how the Utility and consumer agree to conserve energy.
